Legends Manager David Klein did not have good memories of their 2011 trip to Humboldt when the Legends were swept in a doubleheader and were shut out in both games.  Friday night, he must have started to have nightmares as Crabs catcher Will Soto (Sacramento State) hit a 2 run homer off starter Raymond Torres (UNMH) and Crabs starter Tanner McIntyre (Virginia Tech) threw four shutout innings in front of 1457 fans.

Klein’s fears of a repeat were soon erased as the Legends scored two runs in the fifth. Shortstop Jason Merjano singled, Travis Bonner (West Valley College) singled, Mike Marcoux (Cypress College)walked and Tyger Pederson (UOP) singled to produce two runs.  A Joe Goldenberg (Univ of Hawaii)homer in the sixth gave the Legends a narrow 3 to 2 lead as Torres settled in and blanked the Crabs from the 2nd to the 7th.

Grant Nelson (St Louis University)doubled, Andrew Casteneda singled, Travis Bonner added an rbi single and Mike Marcoux had a rbi single to plate 2 insurance runs for the Legends.

Closer Darren Gidley (Cyrpress College) pitched two scoreless innings but kept the remaining fans excited when he hit two batters in the ninth.

The Legends and Crabs battle again Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
