The Menlo Park Legends won their opening series against the Atwater Aviators, winning the first two games 9-2 and 11-2 respectively and losing the finale 5-2. Despite second baseman Pierson Jeremiah’s home run, the first for the Legends this year, the team was unable to complete the sweep of the Aviators.

Even with the loss, Menlo Park’s bats came out hot in the series. First baseman Brian Haggett and third baseman Grant Nelson combined for 9 hits and 9 runs batted in, five of those hits being doubles.

The bats were aided by strong pitching outings by Ray Torres and Jacob Eichorn in the first two games. Both pitchers threw five innings, where Eichorn struck out nine batters.

“I was really satisfied with our performance this weekend,” General Manager David Klein said. “The bats were hot—we hit a ton of doubles, and we scored in almost every inning. The pitching was great as well. I was very impressed with Eichorn and Torres. Both of them threw a solid five innings.”

The Legends look for a win against Bercovich Collegiate on June 5 at Chabot College.
