Legends Stay Hot at Home, Drop 2 in Sonoma: July 23rd Week Recap

The Menlo Park Legends dropped a tough one on Sunday in Wine Country, losing by the final score of 13-6. Although Menlo Park would lose both games in Sonoma over the weekend on the road, the Legends added two more wins at home and continue their success at home this season.
Friday Night
The Legends dropped Friday night’s game at Sonoma, 5-1. The offense was bested by Sonoma’s David Howard, who allowed just 2 hits across his 5 innings of work for the Stompers. The Menlo offense just couldn’t get it going, as they had just 5 hits throughout the night and would strand 9 runners. Will Anderson, however, added another multi-hit game for the Legends.
Joseph Lee was solid in his 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing just one earned run and striking out six Stompers batters on Friday night. The Legends were bested by Sonoma’s offensive success, including a three-run sixth inning that saw the Stompers gain the game’s momentum from Brady Shannon’s 2-RBI single.
Saturday Night
San Francisco defeated the Legends at College of San Mateo on Saturday by a final score of 5-3. The Legends jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, including an RBI double from the Legends’ designated hitter, James Bose.
Quinn Robertson added a quality start on the mound, throwing 4 scoreless innings before running into some trouble in the 5th inning. Robertson ended the night with 3 strikeouts and only 3 runs earned, but the 4-run 5th inning proved to be the difference maker in the game.
Paul Wheeler and Zak Vasquez added four quality innings out of the Menlo bullpen late in the game as well, but the Menlo Park arms couldn’t get any run support as the Legends were held scoreless by Lincoln Suarez and the San Francisco bullpen.
Sunday Afternoon
Sonoma bested the Legends on Sunday afternoon, 13-6. The Legends’ offense saw great performances throughout the night, but Sonoma took the momentum early and ran away with it after the
Charlie Deggeller, Dane Most, and Quincy Via added some momentum for the Legends late in the game with RBIs, as the Legends’ offense scratched 6 runs across in the last 4 innings of play. Menlo Park was no match for the Stompers’ 1o hit night on Sunday, which included a pair of 4-run innings for Sonoma that blew the game open.
