3 hits from first baseman Brian Haggett and a stellar performance from starting pitcher Ray Torres led the Menlo Park Legends to a 9-2 victory in their season opener against the Atwater Aviators. The Legends took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning after two doubles, one from Haggett and the other from third baseman Grant Nelson. Andrew Casteneda led off the fourth inning with a single and would score another run for the Legends, giving them a 4-0 lead. In the seventh inning, the Aviators managed to put two runs on the board, but Menlo Park matched that and took a 9-2 lead with the help of a double by second baseman Pierson Jeremiah. The team faces the Aviators again tonight at 7pm in Atwater.
