Week Recap: June 30-July 6

The Legends won two more key games in CCL play last week, both coming on the road for the green and gold. Menlo Park would defeat the Walnut Creek Crawdads on Wednesday night, before taking a game from the first-place Alameda Merchants in the Sunday afternoon doubleheader. Altogether, the team has grinded this summer and continues to make great strides, as the Legends have just under a month left and are only 5.5 games back in the CCL North Division.

Wednesday :

Joseph Lee was dominant yet again for Menlo Park, earning another win on the mound. He would end up going five strong and allowing just one earned run, as he punched out five Crawdad batters. Matthew Anderson and Paul Wheeler added several great frames in relief after Lee. Diego Menjivar was also dominant in the ninth inning, earning the save.

Along with a quality night from the Legends’ hurlers, Walnut Creek was no match for the Legends’ offense. Newly acquired Mitchell Birdsall from San Jacinto College had a huge three-hit night. In addition, the green and gold smacked 10 hits in total, including several clutch RBI hits from Birdsall, Austin Robago, and Russell Filter.

Thursday:

After a great Wednesday night, the Merchants bested the Legends on Thursday by the final score of 11-9. Although the Legends smacked 14 hits throughout the game, the Merchants saw two big innings, including a five-run second inning, that proved to be the difference maker in the game.

James Bose and Mitchell Birdsall led the way for Menlo, as both hitters had huge three-RBI nights for the Legends. It was another impressive night for Bose, as he slugged four key hits on the night, including a big RBI double in the ninth.

Saturday:

San Francisco came out swinging on Saturday, as the Seagull offense had twelve hits on the night and was led by a quality outing on the mound from Maxwell McGrady.

The green and gold would answer back after 5 runs early in the first two frames. Blake Cowans, Will Robbins, Austin Robago, and Dane Most all had RBIs, but the Legends couldn’t answer the early scoring.

Sunday:

Menlo Park took game one of the doubleheader on Sunday, 11-8. The offense proved to be the difference maker, as the Legends had 11 runs on 11 hits.

Austin Robago had a huge day at the plate, smacking his first home run of the year and driving in four runs, too. Along with Robago, Aaron Louis also hit his first home run to blow the lead open for the Legends. Quincy Via added 2 RBIs on the day as well.

The Legends were very close in game 2, ultimately dropping the second game by the final score of 4-3.
