Legends fall short against Catch

Things are looking shaky for the Menlo Park Legends as they lost their second home game this season.

Coming off a close win in their last game, the Legends fell back into a slump losing 6-3 to the SoCal Catch, June 23.

The Legends’ line up was somewhat back to its original form, which included big hitters like Ryan Rosa (West Valley) and Robert Henry (Brown). Dylan Cook (Georgia) will not be returning to the roster due to a wrist injury and the absence of their leading hitter has contributed the Legends’ recent loses.

The game started with four quiet innings with neither team scoring a run. Starting pitcher Troy Nelson (Trinity) controlled the strike zone with five strikeouts before the Catch had an offensive burst in the fifth. The Catch scored off a base hit to left followed by a three run home run to take a four-run lead over the Legends.

The Legends were able to answer back with three consecutive runs in the bottom of the fifth by Kyle Zirbes (Embry-Riddle), Kyle Barret (Arkansas), and Matt Dezort (Missouri State). Things got hectic on base after Robert Henry stole second with Ryan Rosa on third. Rosa attempted to steal home as the throw went to second but a quick throw home caught him in a run down. Henry then broke from second and, after another run down, slid in under the tag to be safe at third. The inning ended after John Montgomery (Eastern Michigan) grounded out, leaving Rosa stranded on third.

In the 8th, the Legends failed to capitalize on what would be their last scoring opportunity leaving the bases were loaded. In the bottom of the inning, the Catch tacked on another two runs, capping the final score at 6-3 against the Legends.

This weekend, the Legends will travel to Southern California to face the Palm Springs Power with intent to change their recent storyline.
