Arcata, Calif. – The trip to Humboldt represents the final road trip of the summer of 2016 for the Menlo Park Legends and they have been well-traveled this summer. With trips to Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Healdsburg already logged, what’s one more added to the mileage? The Legends were prepared to take on a tough non-CCL opponent in the Crabs, and the Crabs showed up to play in the series opener on Friday night. The game remained close throughout until a late surge from the Crabs offense propelled them to a 10-4 victory over the Menlo Park Legends. With the loss, the Legends fall to 23-13 on the summer with just nine games remaining on tap.

Things looked great for Menlo Park early on as they got out to a 2-1 lead after Ryan McCarthy singled home a run in the top of the fourth but that lead would not last long. Humboldt would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, using three hits in the frame to push ahead by one run. After adding a solo homerun in the fifth, the Crabs had a 4-2 advantage that would hold until they added on one more in the bottom of the sixth. The damage would come in the seventh inning when Alexander Hernandez was summoned to pitch. With the bases loaded in the seventh and Hernandez trying to escape trouble like he did on Tuesday night, he served up a three-run double to clear the bases and unofficially put the nail in the coffin on the game. McCarthy drove home another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to give him a pair of RBIs, but as was the case earlier in the game, the Crabs came back in the bottom of the frame to add two more runs, this time on a triple that plated a pair. Maybe it is just a case of the Friday Blues, as the Legends have yet to win a game on a road trip on Fridays.

Fortunately for Menlo Park, the series is a three-gamer, and they get a chance at redemption on Saturday night against the Crabs. First pitch will be scheduled for 7:00 PM and you can catch the game live on courtesy of the Humboldt Crabs at www.humboldtcrabs.com/watch.
